There are a lot of stories surrounding Wally’s Hydeout (the legendary Studio C of Wally Heider Studios),  many of them true, many of them  impossible to confirm. We know for sure that it was the first modern studio in San Francisco and the brainchild of legendary engineers Wally Heider and Bill Putnam.

We know for sure that Jefferson Airplane christened the tracking room, recording their album Volunteers before the studio had even opened.

We also know the studio was the birthplace of the Grateful Dead’s American Beauty, Santana’s Abraxas, four Creedence Clearwater Revival albums, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s Déjà Vu.

We’re pretty sure the Dead Kennedys, Hieroglyphics, and Joe Satriani have all cut records here, and more recently, local favorites such as Kelly McFarling, Con Brio, and Sweet Plot.

the list of killer records made here goes on and on and as soon as you walk through the door It’s easy to know why — Wally’s Hydeout was built to be one the finest tracking rooms in San Francisco and it still is.
